North Queensland X-Ray Services offers a complete breast imaging service (Townsville only).

What is Mammography?

Mammography is a non invasive diagnostic service for examining the breast using X-Rays. The examination is called a mammogram. It is used to detect and diagnose breast diseases in both men and women.

How long does it take?

Your appointment can take up to 30 minutes but this varies to suit your particular examination.

Is there any special preparation?

Please do not wear deodorant, perfume, lotion or talcum powder under your arms as these may affect the quality of the images. Be sure to accurately describe breast symptoms to your technologist.

Please wear a 2 piece outfit for ease of examination.

What to bring to your appointment

It is imperative for accurate interval follow up and diagnosis that you bring any previous breast imaging (mammograms, ultrasounds or MRI).

You will also need to bring the following items with you:

  • your Medicare Card
  • your doctor’s referral form
