Our diverse team of Doctors are highly skilled within each of their speciality fields, including Radiologists and Cardiologists
Dr Ahmed Bilal MBBS, MMed, FRCR, FRANZCR
Dr Ahmed Bilal graduated from King Edward Medical University Lahore in 2007. He completed his British Radiology Fellowship in in 2012 and Australian Radiology Fellowship in 2018.
He received speciality training in Paediatric Radiology and MSK Radiology in Canada. He has also received dedicated training and has special interest in Breast/Women Imaging and Interventional Procedures.
He has been with working with the company as Consultant radiologist since Jan 2017.
Dr Lim Eng MB ChB (UK), FRACP (Cardiologist)
Dr Lim Eng offers consultations from our Aitkenvale rooms in Townsville, and reports echocardiography, stress tests, holter and ambulatory blood pressure studies.
Dr Eng is a consultant and interventional cardiologist at The Townsville University Hospital. He is the clinical lead in TAVI (Transcather Aortic Valve Implantation) at The Townsville University Hospital.
Dr Eng is fluent in Cantonese, Chinese, Malay and Mandarin.
Dr Jean Haddad MD FRACR
Dr Haddad trained and qualified as a radiologist and completed a Fellowship in Body Imaging and Interventional Radiology in Toulouse, France.
In 1996 he relocated to Melbourne, Australia to work as a Staff Radiologist at the former Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. During that time, Dr Haddad obtained his radiologist’s qualification with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.
Dr Haddad was previously Radiologist-in-charge for Queensland X-Ray in Cairns, until relocating to North Queensland X-Ray Services in March 2021.
Dr Venus Hedayati MBBS/BSc, MRCP, FRCR, FRANZCR
Dr Venus Hedayati obtained her undergraduate Medical degree from University College London in 2007. She achieved Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2009. Thereafter she pursued a radiology career with core radiology training at King’s College Hospital, London.
In 2011 Dr Hedayati became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (UK) and undertook her sub-specialty training in Oncological Imaging as a Fellow at the Royal Marsden Hospital. She was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist in King’s College Hospital in 2014 but came to Australia in 2016 and became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists in 2017.
Dr Hedayati is a radiology lecturer at James Cook University and also works in the Cairns Hospital as a Radiologist.
Assoc. Prof. Bobby John MBBS, MD, DM, PhD, FRACP, FACC , FHRS, FRCP(G), Cardiologst & Electrophysiologist
Dr Bobby John is a Consultant Cardiologist and Senior Staff Specialist at The Townsville University Hospital with over two decades of experience in Cardiology and has been a Cardiac Electrophysiologist since 2004. He graduated from Christian Medical College, Vellore, a renowned quaternary teaching Hospital in India started by Dr Ida Scudder, an American missionary in 1900. He was on the faculty of CMC and was heading the Electrophysiology unit before making a move to Australia.
Dr John is academically oriented and was ranked among the top 5 of his graduating class. His interest in Cardiac Electrophysiology was spurred on by one of Dr Hein Wellens disciples, Dr Lokhandwala. Further to that he pursued a PhD programme at the University of Adelaide in 2006 Studying arrhythmias in Rheumatic Heart disease; a relevant problem in India and among the indigenous population in Australia. Dr John was acknowledged for his work with the Young Investigator Award in two consecutive years by the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society. He completed advanced training in Cardiac Electrophysiology during his tenure at Royal Adelaide Hospital from 2006 to 2009 under the tutelage of Professor Sanders.
Dr John has published over 150 abstracts and 40 original papers. He continues to pursue his research interest at Townville University Hospital and is currently involved in various projects. He has been on various subcommittees of the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society. He holds a number of Fellowships of prestigious societies; being Heart Rhythm Society of North America; American College of Cardiology and Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow.
Dr John pursues his academic interest by holding an Associate Professorship at James Cook University. He has been actively involved in mentorship programs and teaching advanced trainees, residents and interns.
Dr. John has special interest in cardiac electrophysiology. He performs implantation of various devices such as permanent pacemaker, conduction system pacing, cardiac defibrillators, subcutaneous defibrillator and cardiac resynchronization device. He has keen interest in performing atrial fibrillation ablation using Cryoballoon technology. He also does ablation of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular tachycardia. Outside of this, he continues to practise general cardiology including coronary angiography, trans-esophageal echocardiogram and DC cardioversion of arrhythmias. He is kind, empathetic and known to be thorough in his investigations and a meticulous clinician.
Bobby enjoys swimming and cycling and is married with two adult children. He has grown to love the pace of life in Townsville and the friendly people.
Dr Willis Lam (Cairns) MBChB(HK) MD(res) FRACP FCSANZ FASE FSCMR (Cardiology)
Dr Lam completed his primary medical education in the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2001. He then continued to complete his basic physician training and cardiology training in Prince of Wales Hospital and North District Hospital (Hong Kong). He acquired his board certification in cardiology (Hong Kong) in 2008.
He underwent fellowship in advance echocardiography under the mentorship of Prof Marwick in University of Queensland in 2009-2010 and doctoral research fellowship in cardiovascular MRI (CMR) under the mentorship of Prof Pennell in Royal Brompton Hospital (Imperial College London UK) in 2014-2016.
Dr. Lam has extensive experience in both echocardiography and CMR. He obtained the FASE in 2012, the FSCMR and FRACP in 2018. He is currently a consultant cardiologist (lead of cardiovascular imaging) in Cairns Hospital, Australia.
Assoc Prof Tony Lamont MB ChB (Birm). FRCR, FRANZCR, JP (Qual)
Medical training University College of Rhodesia
Trained in Radiology at Oxford and Sheffield, with Specialist Paediatric Radiology training at Capetown.
Previous consultant Paediatric Radiology appointments in Leicester, Brisbane, and Townsville. Currently part time at TUH.
Academic appointments as lecturer in University of Leicester, University of Queensland, and Assoc Prof in Radiology at JCU.
Dr Robbin Waterhouse MBBS,FRANZCR
Dr Robbin Waterhouse gained his medical degree at the University of Western Australia in 1969.
After residency in Perth he was a Medical Officer in the Antarctic for two years.
On return to Australia he studied radiology in Melbourne, based at the Peter MacCallum Clinic. After gaining his Radiology Fellowship, he moved to Townsville and eventually started his own practice which is now North Queensland X-Ray Services.
He “retired” in 2008 and spends his time between travel, golf and casual work.
Dr Suranga Weerasooriya MBBS, MSc, FRACP, FAANMS, FSCMR (Cardiology)
Dr Weerasooriya is dual trained Consultant Cardiologist and a Nuclear Medicine physician.
After completing his primary medical degree (MBBS) he commenced post graduate training in the United Kingdom where he completed his MSc and MRCP part 1 and 2 exams. He arrived in Australia in 2006 and completed his basic physician training in 2009- Royal Darwin Hospital (NT). He then completed the fellowships in Nuclear Medicine and Cardiology in Royal Hobart Hospital (Tas), Royal Adelaide Hospital (SA), Queen Elizabeth Hospital (SA) and in The Townsville University Hospital.
He is also qualified as a specialist in CTCA where he received his training in St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and holds CTCA level A accreditation since 2015. In addition, Dr Weerasooriya holds FSCMR following his fellowship in University college London and Barts Heart Centre, UK. He is a multimodal imager in advanced cardiac imaging including complex echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, cardiac CT, cardiac MR, Nuclear cardiology and PET.
Dr Weerasooriya holds MBBS, MSc, FRACP, FAANMS and has professional memberships with RACP, CSANZ, SCMR, AANMS and ANZSNM. Dr Weerasooriya is a Senior Lecturer in the College of Medicine and Dentistry at the James Cook University. He is the clinical lead in Heart failure at the Townsville University Hospital. He is actively involved in training and teaching of medical students, registrars and advanced trainees in the Townsville University Hospital.
